Getting to Little Cranberry Island
DRIVING:
You cannot drive onto Little Cranberry Island (aka Islesford)! There are passenger ferries that operate out of Northeast Harbor, Maine, and Southwest Harbor, Maine. Paid overnight parking is significantly easier to access in Northeast Harbor. Ferry schedules for Northeast Harbor here and Southwest Harbor here. Depending on your party size, it can also be convenient and economical to hire the water taxi.
NOT DRIVING:
If you’re flying or taking the train, we’d recommend going to Boston, Portland, or Bangor, and renting a vehicle, or coordinating pickup with another wedding guest, which we could surely assist you with. There is also a small airport in Trenton, Maine. Technically, you could also take the Concord Trailways bus to Bangor, the Downeast Transportation bus from Bangor to Bar Harbor, and the free Island Explorer bus service to Northeast Harbor. It just might take a while.
GETTING AROUND THE ISLAND:
Little Cranberry Island is less than a mile across, and very easy to walk around. While you won’t be able to take your vehicle to the island, there are roads, cars, and golf carts, so if you arrive via ferry and need to move luggage, we can help you. The Congregational Church and Neighborhood House are about a quarter mile from the dock.
FOOD ON THE ISLAND:
There is a very small grocery store run by the Fisherman’s Co-op on Little Cranberry Island. There is also one restaurant. Still, if you’re staying on LCI for more than just the evening, you might want to bring some groceries from the mainland.
